No hard sell from Enlightened Windows, just good, honest advice. Initially, we had three large triple glazed, wooden framed windows replaced by STM of Denmark, which closely resembled the appearance of the originals. We were exceptionally pleased with how much skill & care was taken by the installers, leaving us no mess.
A couple of years on, we were going through the process of moving house when we were broken into. A large kitchen window was wrenched from its mounting. Chris Newby, MD of Enlightened Windows, came to our rescue & promptly ordered a replacement from Denmark. The necessarily long lead-in time meant that when it was delivered the new owners were in occupancy. It was difficult to fit because of the internal Corian type cill butted up against the window frame, so great care had to be taken.
On both occasions we were kept very well informed as to the progress of the orders & fitting. Needless to say, it is important to double-check the complete specification to ensure that no errors creep in, before finalising the order.
The STM windows Enlightened Windows supply are of the highest quality & are thus not cheap but the service of all concerned cannot be faulted, thus we highly recommend the company.

Building a new house while caring for two infants has been challenging, and when the time came to find windows, I felt dejected, because I did not want cheap plastic windows, and did not want to talk to a typical window salesman.
Our new build is (almost) a ‘passive house’ so we needed windows that will harmonise with the integrity of the insulation and soundproofing of the building.
Chris replied to my email with a telephone call and we talked for a long time. He came with Enlightened Windows’ mobile showroom and patiently (while I juggled two toddlers!) showed us the windows they have on offer.
We decided on Unik Funkis premium triple glazed composite windows. Unlike other window salesmen that we met with, Chris was 100% NOT pushy, and is just a very genuine person. Everyone we dealt with in the company was extremely polite, prompt and helpful. Every step of the way we have received nothing but care.
After taking care checking measurements and our specifications, we put in our order and they were delivered exactly when we wanted by their also extremely polite and courteous delivery man, and Chris contacted us to check we were happy.
We are so delighted with Enlightened Windows. Thank you so much!

It’s rare to find a company as good as this. The first part of the window replacement process was to find a company. A large national company was tempting because it offered a large, skilled workforce for the installation to be completed in a timely manner and large turnover to offer good prices. However, friends who chose this option tell me of the indifference of the workers, poor standards and unfinished work which discouraged me. I turned to the Which Guide to choose a local company with good reviews, permanent employees and a reputation for doing the right thing. Next, was to choose a decent product. Of the three companies I chose, one was significantly cheaper (white PVC) and one much more expensive (timber) than Enlightened Windows (aluminium clad timber). As the work progressed, and issues arose it was reassuring to know we had chosen the right company.
1. High Quality product
Offering good thermal properties through the aluminium externally clad, high wood density frame and the double glazing, the windows should not require annual painting and save on heating costs. Replacing the several panes for some of the windows with one pane makes some windows feel that much wider and the house bigger. We selected an opening system to allow the upstairs windows to be cleaned from inside the property, thus removing the need to be outside, up a ladder; safer and more convenient.
2. Professional workers
The Enlightened fitters’ work was of a high standard. They also returned to fix some small issues we found weeks after the installation such as mismatched colour filling, and rough window boards.
3. Uncovered long standing issues we were unaware of – rotting window frames, faulty lead roofing.
Some of the work had to be postponed when Enlightened exposed a number of original building faults never resolved by the previous owners because they were not aware – the original builder didn’t use enough lead flashing leading to water ingress in several areas! Independently finding a roofer to fix these issues proved to be difficult: they didn’t keep appointments, didn’t follow through with a quote or were just not available for several months. Fortunately, Enlightened recommended a roofer who provided quality work, reasonable prices and managed to squeeze my small but essential jobs in between others. Was this luck? No, it was finding the right company in the first place.
4. Working in bad weather to make it watertight
Some work was done to make the windows watertight even when the weather was atrocious. This was exceptional.
5. Colour advice and references for previous work
Enlightened’s colour advice transformed our original choice into something special. We originally wanted white frames but the pebble grey/cotswold green finally selected compliments the whole house.
6. Good timekeeping – Rapid installation – due to other works there was a limited installation time but Enlightened ramped up their workforce and completed the work twice as fast as expected without comprising the installation quality, which was self-evident.
7. Cost. It is an expensive product compared with alternatives, but the benefits justify the cost.
8. Measuring and ordering mistakes resulted in installation delays – we are all human and we all make mistakes, but the difference with this company is how they resolve issues. Instead of walking away, Enlightened continued until it was fixed. So many companies in the past have left me with a mess, but not this time. If only everyone worked like this.
In summary, if you choose Enlightened Windows you are really in safe hands and quite a special product.

The entire team worked faultlessly dealing with windows that were difficult to remove, wasps nests etc. Each of the team are highly experienced and ensure that nothing is too much effort and everything is completed to the highest standards. We spent a long time deciding the colour and Chris and the team were very happy to help and provide samples so we could get it right. This is an outstanding Company
I cannot recommend this company highly enough. I found them through ‘Which’ and it was a pleasure, from start to finish to deal with them. After explaining to Chris that I wanted windows requiring minimal maintenance, he guided me through my options. He was never pushy but incredibly keen to find the right windows for my personal taste and for my property. I chose aluminium-clad timber windows, which look fantastic in my stone barn conversion. Chris even arranged for me to visit a house that had been fitted with identical windows, which was enormously helpful. There were many decisions to be made, but Chris and Roald guided me through this process with great patience and expertise. I don’t regret any of the choices I made. The installation by Simon and Richard was outstanding. They were clearly highly skilled and paid great attention to every detail. The entire Enlightened team were helpful, professional and charming. My windows look fantastic and I am delighted that I chose this company.

Enlightened Windows supplied alu-clad Rationel windows for a complete house refurbishment project we carried out in 2019. This included 19 windows, a glass wall and two large (3m+) French doors. Chris is incredibly knowledgeable and his team were very helpful. The windows were delivered and fitted on time. Where Enlighten have excelled is in their after sales service. We have had a couple of minor issues with the seals, doors & locks since the initial installation and Chris has responded immediately and either popped ’round and adjusted himself or arranged for them to be fixed under the 5 year guarantee. This has meant we have had complete peace of mind. The windows themselves are excellent and we have been really happy with them both in terms of thermal efficiency and noise reduction.

Happy to recommend
We really appreciated the personal time and service that Chris and his whole team invested in our multi-stage project. From the outset these guys were present, attentive, personable and understanding. The mobile showroom, with Chris on our property to answer all questions and carefully take the time to frankly discuss all the options with us, was such a welcome change to the big showrooms with vaguely-engaged junior staff members. Cutting edge product expertly fitted
We ordered Danish aluclad window doors. Talked the work through with Roald and finalised our requirements. A survey was completed by Richard complete with video and photos of the job. The window doors arrived two weeks ahead of the scheduled date and were duly fitted by an efficient three man team. We couldn’t be more pleased with the experience.

We love where we live apart from one thing… we live on a main road. We thought long and hard about new windows and did a lot of research. We realised for us, it wasn’t just a case of double glazing, which we already had.
We contacted Enlightened Windows and had a long chat with Chris and arranged to go and have a look at the windows. We agreed on triple glazed units with acoustic glass. We had also just finished landscaping our back garden and wanted bi-fold doors. Roald was extremely helpful and produced the drawings for us to approve.
The team arrived to fit the windows a few weeks earlier than originally planned. There were a few problems with one window being measured incorrectly and a couple of alterations to be made with openings… but the issues were dealt with and resolved straight away at no further cost to ourselves. The mark of a good company is how they deal with any problems, and Chris dealt with the issues professionally and promptly. The team of fitters, led by Simon and Richard, were excellent and showed attention to detail.
What can we say about the windows? They were expensive but worth every penny! The quality is second to none. The noise reduction is very noticeable…. previously if a noisy tractor went past we would have to turn up the volume on the TV. Now we barely notice it. We have also noticed a big difference in heat loss and there are absolutely no cold spots at all. The bifold doors are magnificent, exceptional quality and we are very pleased.
If you want quality windows that you know will last, I urge you to look at Enlightened Windows.

A very reliable company
Having spent part of every summer for 30 years up a ladder stripping, repairing and painting elderly windows in a 17th-century property we had the opportunity to replace them in 2011. On the advice of a trusted friend, whom I knew would have done extensive research as did we, we fitted Vrogum windows and doors. They look as good as the day they were installed. I wash the frames every so often but the painted surfaces show no deterioration whatsoever after more than a decade of, at times, extreme weather conditions. As a result, we had no hesitation in installing the same windows and doors in a listed cottage currently undergoing renovation. We are again delighted with the product and the help we received from Chris and Roald. Queries were always answered promptly and Roald went to great lengths to source specific window catches and door handles for a heritage property. The delivery date was as promised and a minor problem was resolved very quickly and personally. We have no hesitation in recommending the company and the products we used.

There is so much more light and without a draught the room is so much warmer. We wish we had done it sooner. Richard Nockolds
Our home is an early nineteenth century windmill which we converted and extended some twenty five years ago. Because it’s Grade II Listed, there are some limitations over what we can and can’t do to maintain and modernise the buildings.
Fortunately, we found an enthusiastic planner who appreciated our need to replace the windows in our relatively contemporary extension, and she helped us decide on a brand of composite windows supplied by Chris Newby and his team.
The process from start to finish probably took a little longer than we had hoped, but we were in the middle of Covid Lockdown, and supply chain restrictions exacerbated things somewhat. Nevertheless, once the installation began, it was pretty smooth all the way through.
We needed to replace some twenty-two windows and doors, and the installation team were careful, considerate and professional from start to finish.
Since then, the biggest prize has been the impact of modern double-glazing on a building which really feels the weather.
When our windmill was built back in 1832, they knew what they were doing – building it at the exact spot in our village where the elements can be at their most combative. Often, through the winter, we would need a roaring fire to complement our under-floor heating. Now, with our new windows, we very rarely need a fire. It’s a much warmer house now – and very noticeably so.
We very rarely write reviews, or comment on anything when we’ve been asked for feedback. But, this is one occasion where we feel we can confidently recommend the genuine enthusiasm of Chris, and the professionalism of his team. Thank you.

We spent a good six months on the process of choosing replacement windows and doors for our Oxford semi, and got quotes from at least 5 potential suppliers. We almost settled on one provider based on a friend’s recommendation, but got fed up with their constant refrain of suspicious special offers – “my manager’s letting me offer 25% off, but only if you sign up this week”. One day we were out walking round the neighbourhood and stopped to admire some unusual windows. The homeowners came out and ethused about them, and gave us the name of the makers, Danish brand STM. A quick search turned up Enlightened as just about the only firm supplying STM in the UK, so we got in touch.
As soon as Chris and Roald arrived we could tell we were in safe hands. The combination of Chris’s enthusiasm and Roald’s encyclopedic knowledge and attention to detail was thoroughly reassuring. The process of picking styles, layouts, and colours was made easy by their help and advice, Roald’s patience as we dithered, and Chris’s willingness to go the extra mile by finding us examples in situ to look at. There being no hard sell or nonsense about discounts was an added bonus.
Meeting their expert team of fitters led by Simon and Richard added further reassurance, and the process of getting everything fitted was made thoroughly pleasant by their skill, care, and can-do attitude. Although it was necessarily disruptive to have holes ripped in the house, this was kept to a minimum and the team were a delight to have around, as well as being almost unbelievably clean and tidy – the house has rarely been cleaner than when they left at the end of each day, and on the last day Chris even hoovered our plastic lawn.
We’ve now lived with our new windows (timber clad in aluminium) for a few months, and the house is transformed – not only are they absolutely beautiful, and feel wonderfully solid, they’re also massively better at keeping the cold out than our manky old PVC ones, and when they’re shut tight the house is quite eerily quiet too. On top of all that, they actually ended up costing less than the last quote we had from our previous choice of supplier (for plain aluminium, handles etc extra).
All in all, we really couldn’t be happier with either the product or the process of choosing and fitting, and would strongly recommend anyone lucky enough to live within the areas Enlightened cover to accept no substitute.

We had a requirement to update old UPVC windows which were drafty, leaking and poorly fitting. As part of our research of the marketplace we arranged a visit from Chris (MD of Enlightened) in his mobile showroom – this was very efficient as we could see the products and Chris could also perform an initial assessment of the job on site. We chose the Danish STM alu clad wooden windows for their appearance, features and performance. Working with the Enlightened team has been a pleasure all the way through – Chris is very responsive, Roald full of enthusiasm and also very responsive and Richard – the man on the ground, doing the majority of the installation work – is an excellent quality workman with an eye for detail. The whole team have a great sense of humour whilst delivering a superb service. There is also a culture of under promise and over deliver at Enlightened which seems to be set by Chris and is a refreshing approach as this was all happening during the back end of the pandemic. The only very minor negative comment regarding the STM product was that several handles had been marked during manufacture / transit in exactly the same place – some sort of QA issue which Enlightened quickly fixed by swapping the handles. All round we would thoroughly recommend Enlightened and STM.

I have found Vrogrum wooden windows and doors the best wood windows and doors I have ever installed I have worked in the building industry as a site manager for nearly 30 years and have not see another wood window that comes close to the robust design and the the durability of the factory finish paint work is unbelievably good!
The windows were fitted back in 2005 and it is only now in 2021 that the windows and doors need repainting and in that time none of the 40 windows and 20 doors have ever warped or swelled.
I can not recommend Vrogrum wooden windows and doors enough.

Whilst doing research into uPVC windows I came across Enlightened Windows. Although they did not cover our area I had a long conversation with Chris. He was extremely helpful in explaining which sort of Windows to have installed. We now have decided to go for a composite window from Denmark. If we had lived in Warwickshire there would be no doubt which company I would choose and you only have to look at the website reviews to feel happy instructing Enlightened Windows to do the work. Thank you Chris for all your help and guidance in choosing good quality Windows.

Absolutely over the moon with the finished results of my brand new windows and front door. I wanted to choose a company local to me and didn’t realise until I started looking that walking distance from my house was a company with far superior windows and doors than anyone else I could find. Their website mentions that you might pay more for the quality of these goods, however I think they should consider removing this statement from their website as I found this not to be the case. I know that quotes from other businesses would have been similar or even higher but for far less quality of both goods and service. The installation team were extremely professional and courteous. The deeper than standard window frames also meant the handles are not sticking out allowing my new window blinds to sit flush up against them, another fantastic bonus! Would I recommend this company? I wouldn’t recommend anyone else!!!
