Oak garden room extension in Cheltenham

You may notice from our previous galleries, sliding doors are somewhat of a rarity from us. When we do use them, though we say so ourselves, they do look stunning.

We worked closely with both the customer and their builders to make sure the project turned out exactly as they wanted. After considering a few different sliding door configurations and even the possibility of bifolding doors, two Sunflex SVG30 sliding doors were chosen. This product has a very slim central mullion, and this provides a very large, yet still practical, expanse of glass to provide the best view and let as much light in as possible.

For the handles, the customer chose the alternative stainless steel option. Upgrading the handles over the standard colour-coded solution can make a huge impact, and the steel creates a much more premium appearance as well as a more premium feel. Especially when contrasting against the dark anthracite grey frames.

The anthracite grey RAL 7016 also works very well with the structure surrounding. The natural timber finish “pops” as it outlines the darker colour; creating a traditional highlight to an otherwise modern idea. For those of you considering the implications of using timber beams on a build such as this, they are actually steel beams with timber-cladding.

When looking for aluminium sliding doors, almost everyone’s wish-list contains “flush threshold”. This is very important to get right, as simply using the lowest possible threshold can create a huge risk of rain water running down the doors, pooling at the base and working it’s way inside. For this project, the customer chose to use Aco drain channels around the new structure to take water away from the doors. This is normally a much neater solution compared to a standard box cill.

All in all, this is clearly a beautifully-designed sunroom addition to a traditional home.
