Arguably four projects in one! This Warwick farmhouse replacement project also included a large kitchen extension, a brand new office outbuilding and heavy renovation work to a single storey barn conversion.

A barn conversion attracts a lot of conservation attention, yet confusingly sported some generic plastic items before we arrived… Now, the timber-only Rationel Forma windows and doors are proudly front and centre on every elevation. These traditionally-styled timber products have an effective lifespan of 65 years, so we shouldn’t be called back any time soon!

The removal of similarly generic plastic from the main house created a slightly different situation: the customer preferred not to have to deal with any timber maintenance here if possible. Luckily, Rationel’s Forma product has a FormaPlus composite variant: this simply adds a thin aluminium cover on the external face of every window, so these units will never need painting. Ever.

Meanwhile, the new extension and office were designed as far more modern items. Large sliding doors, full height corner windows and more contemporary, slim topguided units were the requirement. We kept to the same external colour, but swapped over to the UK-based company Smart Systems. Smart offer a full range of aluminium-only options, and have plenty of frame profiles to choose from. A flat and modern external solution was found, and this brings the whole project to a close.

With us now able to take a step back and consider what was quite a complex project, mainly due to the variation of new, changing and remaining parts, we’re happy that all three products chosen by our customer have come together in their respective areas with their unique design strengths.
